As Lithuania Marks Philanthropy Day on November 15, the Vilnius University (VU) Foundation announces this year\u2019s Patronage Council decisions: for outstanding contributions to strengthening the University, 2 National Patron Titles and 3 Community Patron Titles have been awarded.<\/strong><\/p>\n

National Patrons Angel\u0117 and Sigitas Kazlauskas, and Mantvydas Juozapavi\u010dius (personal archive photo).<\/p>\n

Posthumous National Patron Titles were granted to Dr. Angel\u0117 Matild\u0117 Kazlauskas (1935\u20132020) and Dr. Sigitas Pranas Kazlauskas (1935\u20132005).<\/strong> Lithuanian-Canadian dentists and philanthropists Angel\u0117 and Sigitas Kazlauskas bequeathed<\/a> nearly \u20ac5 million to strengthen the field of dentistry at VU. Investment returns from their named sub-fund support the activities of the VU Angel\u0117 and Sigitas Kazlauskas Pediatric Dentistry Center, as well as named awards and scholarships for dental researchers and students.<\/p>\n

A posthumous National Patron Title was also awarded to Mantvydas Juozapavi\u010dius (1976\u20132023).<\/strong> From their late son\u2019s 2023 estate, Mantvydas\u2019 parents, Irena and Algirdas Juozapavi\u010diai, donated<\/a> \u20ac1.3 million to the VU Endowment: a \u20ac1 million named sub-fund was established in their son\u2019s memory, while an additional \u20ac100,000 each was allocated to the VU Life Sciences Center and Prof. Algis Petras Piskarskas sub-funds, along with support for other VU Foundation activities.<\/p>\n

The Community Patron Title was awarded to Egl\u0117 and Romualdas Danieliai.<\/strong> Egl\u0117 Danielien\u0117, daughter of renowned linguist Prof. Jonas Kazlauskas, together with her husband Romualdas Danielius, established<\/a> a \u20ac140,000 endowed sub-fund in the VU Fondation bearing Prof. J. Kazlauskas\u2019 name, the investment returns of which are used to establish named scholarships, awards, and support other initiatives at the VU Faculty of Philology.<\/p>\n

The Community Patron Title was awarded to the company Arimex<\/em>.<\/strong> The nuts and dried-fruit supplier Arimex allocated<\/a> \u20ac100,000 to a named endowed sub-fund, the investment returns of which are directed to supporting initiatives that promote mobility and well-being within the VU community.<\/p>\n

The Community Patron Title was awarded to the \u0160iauliai Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts (\u0160PPAR).<\/strong> In 2024, \u0160PPAR allocated<\/a> \u20ac50,000 to a named endowed sub-fund, the investment returns of which will support the VU \u0160iauliai Academy and initiatives related to it.<\/p>\n

In previous years, for their support to the VU Foundation, Vilnius City Municipality Patron Titles were granted to Darius Zubas, Nerius Numa, Danas Tvarijonavi\u010dius, Alvydas \u017dabolis, Arvydas Andrijauskas (Alma Littera<\/em>), Gediminas Vaitiek\u016bnas (GV muziejus<\/em>), and the companies Light Conversion<\/em> and Ekspla<\/em>. Community Patron Titles were previously awarded to the Juozapavi\u010dius family and to the Acme grup\u0117<\/em>.<\/p>\n
