The first Angel\u0117 and Sigitas Kazlauskas Named Awards were presented to researchers and students of the Institute of Dentistry at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University. The awards are intended to fund ideas and research projects in dental science. Six scientific projects shared a prize fund totaling nearly \u20ac35,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The named awards are financed from the investment returns of the Angel\u0117 and Sigitas Kazlauskas Endowment Sub-fund<\/a>, established in 2024. The \u20ac4.2 million subfund aims to ensure long-term, sustainable funding for the development of pediatric dentistry at Vilnius University, the improvement of the quality of dental studies, and the strengthening of scientific research.<\/p>\n

The largest awards, \u20ac10,000 each, were granted to two research projects. One of them was awarded to the project \u201cAnalysis of the Physicochemical and Biological Properties and Applicability of a Hydraulic Calcium Silicate Root Canal Filling Modified with Hydroxyapatite, PMETAC, and Silver Nanoparticles\u201d<\/strong> (Prof. Dr. Saulius Drukteinis, PhD student Goda Bilvinait\u0117, Prof. Maria Teresa Arias Moliz, student Aloizas Linkevi\u010dius).<\/p>\n

The second \u20ac10,000 award was granted to the project \u201cStudies of the Therapeutic Effects of Extracellular Vesicles in Human Periodontal Tissue Organoids\u201d<\/strong> (junior assistant Greta Aidukait\u0117, Prof. Dr. Vilma Brukien\u0117, Dr. Augustas Pivori\u016bnas).<\/p>\n

A \u20ac5,000 award was presented to the project \u201cEvaluation of the Physicochemical and Remineralizing Properties of a Hydraulic Calcium Silicate Endodontic Filler Modified with Calcium Hydroxyapatite, Fluoridated Hydroxyapatite, and Magnesium Whitlockite\u201d<\/strong> (student Paulina Moz\u016brait\u0117, PhD student Goda Bilvinait\u0117, supervisor Prof. Dr. Saulius Drukteinis).<\/p>\n

A \u20ac4,980 award was granted to the project \u201cInvestigation of the Association Between Genetic DEFB4 Variations and Oral Diseases in a Population of Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities\u201d<\/strong> (student Karol\u0117 Simon\u0117 Motiej\u016bnait\u0117, supervisor Dr. Indr\u0117 Stankevi\u010dien\u0117, Dr. Kristina Dani\u016bnait\u0117).<\/p>\n

A \u20ac2,750 award was granted to the project \u201cThe Influence of Bone Density on the Accuracy of Dynamic Navigation in Dental Implantation: an In Vitro Study\u201d<\/strong> (resident Ksenija Matvijenko, supervisor Dr. Rokas Borusevi\u010dius).<\/p>\n

A \u20ac2,250 award was granted to the project \u201cRestoration of Endodontically Treated Teeth: In Vitro Micro\u2013Computed Tomography Analysis of the Porosity of Different Barrier Fillings\u201d<\/strong> (student Migl\u0117 Rudauskait\u0117, supervisor Dr. Paulius Tu\u0161as).<\/p>\n

Dr Angel\u0117 Matild\u0117 Kazlauskas (1935\u20132020) and Dr Sigitas Pranas Kazlauskas (1935\u20132005) were emigrant Lithuanians from the Bir\u017eai region who, as children, were forced to flee to the West with their parents during the Second World War.
