They have not only made our daily lives easier, but have also driven major technological advances. However, <strong>adhesives pose a risk to the environment and human health<\/strong>. Strong adhesive called <em>holdfast<\/em>, naturally produced by bacteria like <em>Caulobacter crescentus<\/em> and <em>Hirschia baltica<\/em>, enables them to firmly attach to aquatic surfaces. Through genetic engineering, we are removing genes that would interfere with polysaccharide synthesis. This will lead to more efficient glue production.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Other Team Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project&#8217;s social activities are the team&#8217;s efforts to spread the word about our project, raise awareness of local and global issues and <strong>educate the public about science<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The greatest example of this year&#8217;s public activities is the <strong>\u201cSynFolk\u201d<\/strong> event cycle. During this cycle, we invited people to discover the wonders of science by combining ancient mythology and modern knowledge. In addition, we have developed a mobile game to learn about the different bacteria that live on different surfaces and their parts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to these initiatives, we also actively share the wonders of science on our social media channels. Thanks to the <strong>\u201cAsk the scientist\u201d<\/strong> initiative, we allow our audience to ask questions about different branches of science. It encourages participants (around 400 teams from more than 65 countries!) to solve <strong>real-world problems<\/strong> using molecular biology, engineering, biology, computer science and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What makes this competition special is that the students are not only working in the lab but also involved in <strong>public education<\/strong>. The team aims to break down stereotypes and educate young people and adults about synthetic biology. The teams also work closely with scientists, governments and businesses to ensure that the solutions they develop are applied in the real world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Our Team<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year&#8217;s \u201cVilnius-Lithuania iGEM\u201d is representing Lithuania in this competition for the <strong>tenth year in a row<\/strong>.
