The Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences of Vilnius University presents its Endowment Sub-Fund<\/strong> and invites the public, faculty partners and friends, as well as the Alumni community, to contribute by making a donation online.<\/p>\n

\nABOUT VU FACULTY OF CHEMISTRY AND GEOSCIENCES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although chemistry and geosciences have been important disciplines at Vilnius University since the 18th century<\/strong>, the merger of the two units led to the establishment of a new entity\u2014the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences<\/strong>\u2014on November 14, 2016. The Faculty comprises two branch units: the Institute of Chemistry<\/strong> and the Institute of Geosciences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Faculty educates specialists in chemistry<\/strong>: nanomaterials chemistry, cosmetic chemistry, biochemistry, and geosciences<\/strong>, which encompass geography, geology, hydrology, climatology, cartography, and other fields. It consists of 11 departments<\/strong>, a Centre for Nanotechnology<\/strong> and Materials Science<\/strong>, and a Didactics Centre<\/strong> for communication with schools.<\/p>\n

The Faculty’s main research areas include the development of new materials and technologies<\/strong>, as well as the analysis and protection of geo-ecosystems and natural resources<\/strong>. Our goal is to advance internationally competitive science and education while fostering a new generation of young scientists and innovators.<\/p>\n

\nENDOWMENT CAPITAL INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

The VU Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences endowment sub-fund is a sustainable donation management model<\/strong>, where received support is not spent but professionally invested<\/strong> in various asset classes, with the generated investment returns<\/strong> allocated to the needs of the faculty.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\n

The VU Foundation’s investment strategy<\/strong> is based on proven international practices: a highly diversified portfolio, risk management and distribution, and global market investments. The sub-fund’s capital is invested alongside the main foundation’s capital<\/strong>. A 2.5% (or individually agreed) distribution rate is applied to calculate payouts to the VU Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences. Any investment returns exceeding the payout amount are reinvested.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

By reinvesting<\/strong> a portion of the investment returns, the sub-fund’s value will grow exponentially<\/strong> over time. The sub-fund’s investment returns will be used for scholarships for the most talented students, attracting top-level lecturers<\/strong> who will inspire and encourage students to engage in science. World-class scientific research must be one of the priorities: the sub-fund’s returns will also be allocated to funding research, attracting postdoctoral researchers, promoting internships at foreign research institutions, and improving the scientific infrastructure.<\/p>\n
